CALL BEFORE YOU BURN 209-223-6246
Burn permits are required and can be obtained by visiting any CAL FIRE office, such as the one at Sutter Hill station. The permit comes with instructions and best practices for burning vegetation. Permits are free and must be renewed every 2 years.
Burning is often suspended by CAL FIRE when fire season begins - usually early to late May. NO BURNING is allowed during suspension.
If burning is allowed, the Amador Air Pollution Control District determines whether it is a permissable burn day depending on air quality.
Call (209) 223-6246 to find out if it is a permissable burn day. Even if it IS a permissable burn day, never burn if it is windy. NEVER leave a fire unattended. Many fires in our area are started by an escaped burn pile or burn piles left unattended. Repeat offenders face serious fines. If in doubt, simply wait until spring when vegetation waste dumpsters are provided thorughout the county, free of charge.
