Temporary Closing of upper Shake Ridge Rd.

Press Release

Re:  Temporary Closing of upper Shake Ridge Rd.

Dear residents of Lockwood Fire Protection District,

Due to the recent snow and rains, Amador County has closed upper Shake Ridge Road at Wandering Hills Road until they can determine the extent of the damage and consider all options to repair the damage.   This section of road connects our District to Highway 88 and is utilized by CALFIRE to provide services to Lockwood under the Amador Plan contract.

Lockwood Fire, CALFIRE and Amador County are working closely to re-open upper Shake Ridge to emergency vehicles as soon as possible.  In the meantime, alternate routes have been identified and are being used to respond to calls in our District.

Additionally, the Lockwood Fire Protection District is one of several agencies in Amador County dispatched by the CAL FIRE Camino Emergency Command Center (ECC). All agencies dispatched by CAL FIRE participate in the closest resource concept, which means regardless of jurisdiction, the closest resource will always respond to an emergency and the agency having jurisdiction will respond in addition to the closest resource, assuming they are not one in the same.

CAL FIRE will continue to serve our area alongside Lockwood Fire volunteers.  Please be assured that our priority is you, our community.  We have two trained and certified volunteer firefighters in the western end of the district working out of Lockwood Fire Station #152.  We have volunteer firefighters working at the eastern end out of Lockwood Fire Station #151.  We also receive Mutual Aid assistance from Amador Fire Protection District and the Sutter Creek Fire Department.  It is important to remember, that regardless of jurisdiction, the closest available resource is always dispatched to any emergency in Amador County We want to assure you that we are here for any emergency and services to you will continue to be provided in a timely manner.  If you have any questions please contact CAL FIRE Division Chief Rob Withrow at 296-7591, Lockwood Board President Jan Hewitt at 296-1267 or Public Information Coordinator Jackie Vaughn at 296-6868.

Jan Hewitt, President
