Minutes from Lockwood Fire Protection Auxiliary Meeting, Febuary 21, 2007

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, February 21, 2007.

Alene Forbes acted as chair and led the discussion of several fundraising events that might be held during the year.  Homer Forbes gave a brief report concerning the current financial status of LFPD, indicating the need for the Auxiliary to be reestablished so that funds can be raised by whatever means possible.

Following some discussion, it was approved that the following offices would be filled:

Chairman: Jo Wagner
Treasurer: Alene Forbes
Secretary: Joanna McKenna

Although it was recognized that the flea market, traditionally held in May, was the big money maker, all those attending agreed that the work involved was too difficult unless we had some new “young blood” willing to participate.  It was decided to limit our spring activity to a pancake breakfast combined with a bake sale on May 19. The admission will be $6 per person, children under 8 are admitted free to encourage families to participate.  The bake sale is always popular so we should make an effort to arrange for as many donations as possible.  Alene Forbes offered to do the shopping since she has been involved with this event in past years. Arrangement must be made to move the grill from Station 2 to Station 1. Alene is free to call upon any members for assistance before and during the event.

Discussion was held regarding  a Summer BarBQ some Saturday in July or August, the time to be confirmed at a later date.  It will be a potluck event, with LFPD providing the hamburgers/hot dogs. Hopefully, the meat will be donated by local grocers.  Someone will be appointed for this assignment. We will plan a raffle table and will ask Rena Tinney to be in charge of that. Members are encouraged to donate items.

Alene Forbes volunteered to be in charge of the Chili Cookoff next fall, and will be calling on membership for assistance when planning for this event.

There were 1364 Smokesignals sent out in the recent mailing.  Hereafter,  Smokesignals will be sent out to only residents in the county unless it contains information concerning all property owners, such as an assessment on their property.

Alene and Thelma offered to contact the county to obtain an updated parcel list for future mailings.

The Auxiliary has agreed to pay for new T-shirts bearing the LFPD log.  Dave Long will provide names/sizes to Joanna McKenna who will arrange for placing the order from Black Diamond in West Point who produced the shirts in previous years.

Alene reminded members of the March 3 fundraiser  at the American Legion Hall in Sutter Creek. All funds raised will be divided between three local fire departments, including LFPD. Jackie Vaughn  (296-6868) is in charge of preparations.  Admission is $5 and will be open from noon-10:00.

It was agreed that regular meetings of the LFPD Auxiliary will be held at Staion 1 every second Tuesday of the month.  (next on 3/13)  Alene will contact Herb to post this info on the website. Additionally, it will be posted on the sign in front of Station 1 in the hopes of encouraging new members.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:30.

Respectfully submitted by Joanna McKenna, Secretary
